Global sales of natural and organic cosmetics are projected to reach $14 billion this year, signaling a rebound in market growth following challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. Ecovia Intelligence, a research and consulting company, has been monitoring this sector since 2003, conducting extensive research on market trends and product developments.

The study reveals that North America and Europe currently dominate the natural and organic beauty market, accounting for over 80% of total sales. Notably, the US leads the world in this sector, with Asia emerging as the fastest-growing market due to a surge in new product launches. Both established brands and new players are increasingly incorporating natural and organic offerings into their product lines to meet consumer demand.

Certification has become a significant factor in the industry’s evolution, with over two-thirds of natural and organic cosmetic sales in Germany and France now being certified. The research identifies COSMOS and NATRUE as the most prominent certification standards in Europe, with France and Germany leading in certified product offerings.

Product distribution has also expanded beyond traditional outlets, with natural and organic cosmetics now available in drugstores, pharmacies, department stores, and even beauty salons. Online retailing has witnessed a surge in demand, particularly during the pandemic, reflecting changing consumer preferences and shopping habits.
The competitive landscape has undergone a transformation, with multinational corporations like L’Oréal, Estée Lauder Companies, and Unilever making significant investments in natural and organic beauty products. Many of these companies have either developed their own natural lines or acquired existing natural/organic brands to cater to the growing market demand.

Ecovia Intelligence predicts continued market growth in the natural and organic beauty sector, driven by increasing consumer awareness of synthetic chemicals in traditional cosmetics. Consumers are increasingly opting for natural and organic alternatives as they become more informed about the potential health risks associated with certain ingredients commonly found in conventional beauty products.

Overall, the future looks promising for natural and organic beauty products, with a shift towards cleaner, more sustainable options driven by evolving consumer preferences and a growing emphasis on health and wellness in the beauty industry.
